ME AND THE EASTER BUNNY GOT BEEF

Much peace and Happy Easter. For Day 5 of National Poetry Month, the prompt is:

Write a poem in which you talk about disliking something – particularly something utterly innocuous, like clover. Be over the top! Be a bit silly and overdramatic.

Here is my poem:

ME AND THE EASTER BUNNY GOT BEEF

By Farah Lawal Harris, 2026

Me and the Easter Bunny

got beef.

Anger rises whenever I see

his smiling buck teeth.

What is he smiling about?

Commercialism?

Capitalism?

Christ being risen?

Wearing clothes like

he got somewhere to go…

Pushing eggs and chocolate

like crack to kids,

got them hunting like fiends

lookin’ for it.

Why not promote carrots?

I’mma expose that bunny

for who he is, a scammer

to get parents to spend money

four months after Christmas,

contributing to the country’s

overuse of plastic.

Lemme go hide these eggs…

I’ll be back in a minute.
