DEPRESSION’S SEDUCTION
Much peace. Today’s poetry prompt is:
Write your own poem in which the speaker is in dialogue with him or herself.
Here is my poem:
DEPRESSION’S SEDUCTION
By Farah Lawal Harris, 2026
I got dressed in my finest PJs
for our date—ate
40 milligrams of edible
cuz something about you
makes my lungs feel like high school,
like not cool, like cold pool,
like Boo-Boo the Fool.
There I go again rambling.
My feet get to pacing,
I’m panicking.
“I love to hear you ramble,
see you amble back, forth,
then tumble into my arms.
I love embracing
each thought in your head.”
After all these years,
I still get nervous to see you.
Our meetings seem inevitable.
You take me from emotional high
to steamed vegetable.
“I take you from bass pumping
to low decibals.
C’mere, let me love you.
First, get in the bed.
Second, envelop me with your legs.”
Third, you crack my heart like eggs
and I still gotta show up
sunny side up with a smile tomorrow.
“So you might as well
love me tonight.
You might as well…”
I might be well
some day.
But tonight, we lay.
“And mold together
like clay.”
