SOFTIE

Much peace. Today’s poetry prompt is:

Write your own poem in which you muse on your name and nicknames you’ve been given or, if you like, the name and nicknames for an animal, plant, or place.

Here is my poem:

SOFTIE

By Farah Lawal Harris, 2026

“Softie”

is what they

called me as a teen—

so slim thick the homies

couldn’t see past parts.

“Mom”

is what my child

calls me in my forties,

finding comfort from

laying his head on my bosom

and playing drums on my bum.

This body was

and will forever be

a work of art.
