What Falling in Love Feels Like

The greatest gift I’ve ever given myself is chronicling my life’s journey. Through physical and private online journals—shout out to Xanga.com from back in the day—I possess a clear record of who I was and what I experienced in my twenties.

Lately, I’ve been re-reading these journals and cataloguing them by subject. I came upon this poem I wrote back in 2009, shortly after I began dating my now-husband:

WHAT FALLING IN LOVE FEELS LIKE

Thu, 26 Feb 2009

regardless of how things might end up,

i'm thankful for now;

for my smile and the awakening

in my soul and body,

body and soul,

for jazz tones traveling up my spine

and dancing out of my mouth through colorful laughter.

the world becomes pink and blue

as energies mingle together

in a soft purple violet

needing to be watered.

Swoon!

I’m thankful for love that still feels like awareness and music, laughter and color. Love that is alive because it is well-watered.
